Day 10

Another long run down the Autostrade, this time through road works across northern Italy to the city of Turin - the real "Italian Job" city!  We already knew that Italians were the maddest drivers in Europe, but we didn’t know that Turin had the maddest drivers in Italy!  The drive into the piazza in Turin was not too bad, but under police escort to the Lingotto (old Fiat factory) I experienced first hand the true madness of Italian drivers.  As well as trying to join in the convoy so that they could jump red lights the locals tried to push their way out from side roads even with Police outriders blocking the junction.  After narrowly missing a native's Volkswagen by less than an inch and exchanging expletives in Italian / English it was the car with louder horn that won (us).  After this we were very privileged to be allowed up onto the rooftop of the Lingotto and drive around part of the banked test track that was made famous by the film.  Suffice to say I had a massive smile on my face as it really was a dream come true for me.
