The first leg of the return drive home saw us leave Turin and Italy and head for St Louis in France via St Bernard and Switzerland. We were hoping to go up over the St Bernard pass but unfortunately the pass wasn't open as the border crossing at the top was closed. We came through the St Bernard tunnel and then doubled back up to the top of the pass from the Swiss side. It was a fantastic drive up to the top, and despite the bright sun it was absolutely freezing!! The streams running down the sides of the road were frozen solid. It was quite eerie at the top as there was no one in sight, the border looked deserted and there was no civilisation or any other life as far as the eye could see!!
